At age 47, Lori Kaupas was a highpowered marketing executive with a busy family. The last thing she expected was to have a stroke. Looking back, Ms. Kaupas realizes that stress was a contributing factor, along with an undiagnosed thyroid problem. The Glenmoore, PA wife and mother of three children ages 17,14 and 8, was preparing for one of many business trips – this one to Pittsburgh – the morning of her stroke. During the next 10 months, she was an inpatient, then an outpatient in the Day Treatment Program at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital.
She continues outpatient therapy at BMRH to strengthen weakened muscles on one side, and to improve minor lingering speech problems. Lori has relied on the support and the involvement of her family each step of the way. Recognizing a shortage of helpful services in the community for stroke survivors, Ms. Kaupas reacted in typical fashion – she took action. Teaming up with Diane Rein, another young woman in her Stroke Support Group at the hospital, she created
www.strokesos.com, a Web site for stroke survivors that offers an amazingly diverse sampling of products, games, therapies, resource groups and healthy living tips. Lori remains an active wife and mother and continues to reside in Glenmoore. She has held professional careers in executive, sales and marketing capacities in the IT consulting industry. Lori is an alumnus of Immaculata University located in Chester County, PA
